Bad weather Catfish.

Was on a pond in Boise yesterday morning in the wind and cold. Fish started biting about 9 and continued till 11:30 or so. Got 5 fish, 3 fish were 7 pounds and 2 were 3 pounds. I missed 2, one my line broke when i set the hook.

Went back down this morning and got 1 fish that was 5 pounds and my line broke again on a hook set. Was still cold and windy. Weather has been something else, constantly changing. Pressure is like a yo-yo.

Sorry for the late reply, been away in Toronto working. Around the Boise the fish and game here stocks ponds with channel cats from the snake river. They range from 2 to 10 lbs. I caught a couple of tagged fish and they been putting on over 2 pounds a year. One i caught had been in the pond 10 mths and was already over 2 lbs from when it was tagged.

There are some big fish around, but hard to catch. They been hooked many times so they bite so carefully and if any tension is felt they let it go. There is a pond in Nampa Idaho that is about 20 min west of boise. It has been stocked for 5 yrs and nobody has reported any tags from it so they quit stocking it. This was a couple years ago. My buddy had 15 lb test broke this spring, but i have not been able to get over there. Maybe monday morning.

I use 50 and 65 lb test in case i hook into a really big fish. Lots of sturgeon around here and they go 300 lbs easy. A 30 lb cat will still be tough to land when bank fishing.

I wish there was more data or info on catfish around the country. Lots of people fish them but the data is not recorded and posted like it would be for bass, bluegill, walleye ect.

I been keeping my own logs, but takes lots of time and trial and error.
