Went fishing for panfish over in western Wisconsin this past Saturday and did OK. Between the two of us, we caught roughly 30 fish and kept about 10 for a dinner. The 10 we kept were pretty good size...about the size of your hand. They were not the big ones that I was told have been biting but they still fillet out very nicely. It was windy that day...about 15 MPH out of the N-NW. First tried the north side of the lake out of the wind and got very little action. We went to the south side and fished the wind swept shoreline out from some reeds off of the weed line and had good success. Yet another time when wind swept structure produces fish.

By panfish do you mean Crappies? I've heard rumors that some people actually fish for 'sunfish' but have never been able to confirm this Crappies are tastey fish. :)

Yep, both sunfish and crappies. Crappie is very good and the sunfish are excellent as well. When you catch sunnies the size of your hand and bigger, you can get a great fillet and they taste great. They fight like crazy too, In my opinion much more than a crappie of the same size. We fish with light action rods and like 6lb line with slip bobbers and either wax worms or leeches and they just drill them. When the action is fast and furious with big fish, it's a blast. Plus good eats!
