Crappie do go deeper in the winter, 22 Jan 12 I went and they were down 22-28 feet deep in 35-45 feet of water on the drop offs in trees. When you think your fishing slow enough slow down even slower. Vertical jig using a double hook rig, jig on the bottom and #2 hook on top about 2 feet up with a minnow. I perfer red hooks, some say it dosn't matter but it does to me. If you don't have a good fish finder on your boat it make it a little harder, drop down deep then real up very very slow when you get a bite take a black sharpy and mark your line.
