I live in Fort Collins, CO with my wife and 1 year-old son. I enjoy fishing for cold water and warm water fish species. I love the Rocky Mountains, but cut my outdoor teeth hiking and backpacking in the Appalachian Mountains. I can honestly say that although I am partial to the mountainous regions of this great country (east and west), I have found that every region/state in this country has incredible opportunities for the avid outdoorsman.
Aside from fishing and backpacking I also enjoy alpine and nordic skiing, snowshoeing, mountainbiking, and learning new navigation/survival skills. Some people really enjoy reading a book for an hour of leisure time, I however usually prefer to study an interesting map. Give me a 7.5' quad or a DeLorme Atlas & Gazetteer and I will study the topography until I can figure out a route to a particular destination that is of interest to me. It's pretty cool when you you can develop a mental picture of a place based on map data and then visit that place in person and confirm that your metal image was accurate.
I am very interesting in taking up hunting in 2010 and I hope to have some time to take my hunter's safety course this summer. I have all the necessary equipment and I figure that it would be the perfect marriage of all my outdoor skills/interests. Not to mention with the econmy being so bad, it would be nice to significantly decrease my families spending on expensive, steroid infused grocery store meat.
